King Alfred School

LEARN acted as environmental design consultants to architects Van Heyningen and Haward on the design of a new lower school for King Alfred's School, Hampstead, London, U.K. The building consists of groups of steel framed and timber clad modular units allowing completion of each stage during one summer holiday period of nine weeks.

Energy saving features include:

• daylighting optimisation utilising rooflights with transparent insulation and automatic light switching
• direct gain with external shading
• high insulation levels
• automatic opening rooflights to avoid summertime overheating
