Conversion of Queen's Lodge

Queen's Lodge

LEARN has been approached by the community and charity group "Conservation & Urban Ecology" ("CUE") to help converting their London site at Highgate into the CUE - Eco Centre.

CUE's intention is to create an information and action centre in the North of London that promotes a sustainable lifestyle to local residents and other interested people. One of CUE's main aims is to demonstrate the adaptation of an ordinary existing building to low energy standards and to open this building as an one-to-one-example to the public. CUE is using its base, the nineteenth century Queen's Lodge in Highgate, London, for the conversion.

LEARN has been appointed to help develop the design and strategy for the conversion of the former lodge into an information and consultancy centre with an eco café and a caretaker's flat while at the same time adapting the building and the whole site to low energy and sustainable standards.

At present, the building project has received planning permission, the site has begun to transform into an ecological garden, lectures and meetings are held and the eco café is open at weekends.
