PREA is an international co-operation project between African and European Universities and the International Solar Energy Society (ISES).
PREA aims to promote the wider use of renewable energy technologies in the urban environment of Africa, in support of poverty reduction, improved living conditions and sustainable development. The focus will be on environmental architecture, also for poor communities, with consideration of effective policy, regulation and standard options that will support this.
Within the project a series of workshops on the theme 'Sustainable and Energy Efficient Building in Africa' will be organised, which will take place in October 2006 in South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda. A second series of workshops will be held in 2007.
Moreover a Masters Degree Course in 'Integration of Renewable Energy in Buildings' (IREB), made to suit local climatic, economic and cultural conditions and allowing for exchange and further training opportunities will be introduced to the local partner universities.
The project is supported by the European Commission.
